Mary Kay encourages the tourism industry to ThinkDIFFERENTLY and make their communities more welcoming and accessible to individuals of all abilities and their families.
She fosters partnerships with local agencies to conduct seminars for tourism businesses on disability etiquette, creating autism sensitive environments, employment and more. Dutchess Tourism promotes events and attractions such as the ThinkDIFFERENTLY Dash, Egg Hunts for All, Julie’s Jungle adaptive playground, and the Disability, Dream and Do baseball camp with minor-league players and coaches.
Mary Kay co-chaired the Special Olympics New York Winter Games held in Dutchess County in 2016 & 2017 and will do the same for the Summer Games in 2019 & 2020 when they return to Dutchess.
In 2017, DTI became one of less than 200 DMOs world-wide to receive accreditation from Destinations International. That same year, Vrba was named an Outstanding Woman in Destination Management/Marketing by Women in Travel and Tourism, International.
