Mary Fugere, CDME, CMP, CTIS leads the Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau’s efforts to promote the city’s abundant assets to leisure visitors, conventions, athletic competitions, and members of the media who write about their experiences and spark the interest of their readers. Through destination management, the Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau endeavors to increase revenues generated through visitor expenditures that result in improvements to the quality of life for residents of Hampton and the Coastal Virginia region. Mary and her team strive to inform national and local consumers of the exceptional convention and leisure experience awaiting them in Hampton.

Mary joined the Hampton CVB sales team in 1995 as Senior Tourism Sales Manager. She has worked in nearly every position in the Hampton CVB office, including Group Sales Manager, liaison for the Visitor Center, Media Relations Manager, Senior Media & Marketing Manager, and Director of Media & Community Relations. Mary became Convention & Visitor Bureau Director in January 2016. She has been active in the hospitality industry for more than thirty years, serving in sales positions at the Norfolk CVB, and at several Virginia and Maine full-service hotels. Mary attended Old Dominion University and Greensboro College. Mary is a past President of the Virginia Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus and presently serves as Vice President of the Coastal Virginia Tourism Alliance. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association and Civil War Trails; and serves in leadership roles in a variety of city and community organizations and alliances. She is a Certified Destination Marketing Executive, a Certified Meeting Planner and a Certified Tourism Industry Specialist.
