Diversity and inclusion are topics that affect the tourism industry in two important ways. First, industry professionals need to understand how diverse travelers can be made to feel more comfortable. How do we make a destination, attraction, event, hotel, or restaurant appealing to all, regardless of who they are, where they are from, or what diverse perspective they bring? And, how do we make these same places welcoming to all, regardless of what makes each visitor unique? Second, the industry needs to understand how changing demographics are impacting the workforce. As more people travel and the hospitality and tourism industry grows, these questions will continue to impact the work we do, the interactions we have, and the success of our organizations.
