Join the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority’s (VPRA) Director of Rail Services and the Passenger Rail Marketing Manager as they explore how to strategically align goals that increase economic development and tourism through rail transportation. The Transforming Rail in Virginia Program, an initiative spanning multiple Administrations, includes projects that will expand passenger rail ridership, extend hours, and add weekend service to improve quality of life and create economic opportunities for Virginia residents. VPRA supports four state-sponsored Amtrak routes serving popular destinations like Richmond, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Newport News, Washington D.C., and small-town gems along the way. Through creative marketing, VPRA is highlighting Virginia destinations to spark interest and increase tourism through rail travel. This session will provide an overview of how Transforming Rail in Virginia started, how it’s going, and where it’s going over the next decade.
