Keeping VA1 Healthy and Safe

Given the unknowns with COVID-19, you may be wondering what we will be doing to keep the 2020 VA1 Tourism Summit safe for attendees, exhibitors, and presenters.

Rest assured, we have been working very closely with our host venue, the Omni Richmond Hotel, to plan the conference set up and flow. We’ll be adhering to all of the current federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.

Here are just some of the ways that we will be keeping you safe…

  • The number of in-person attendees is capped at 250, which meets the current guidance and is about 50% of normal VA1 attendance. We expect attendance to be under 200.
  • During registration, staff will be separated from attendees and other staff by plexiglass “sneeze guards”; floor signage will keep registrants 6 feet apart while in line.
  • Temperature checks will be done at registration.
  • Attendees will be required to wear masks during the entire conference, except while eating. Signage will be posted prominently throughout the venue.
  • Seating in the General Sessions and lunch will be 50% of normal (so a table that usually seats eight will be set for four).
  • Speakers on stage will be separated from each other.
  • Classroom-style breakout sessions will be set to accommodate one person per 6 foot table.
  • In between use, spaces will be disinfected by employees.
  • Food safety protocols will include individually-wrapped grab-and-go items, servers wearing masks and gloves, “sneeze guards” separating attendees from food and employees at coffee and tea stations, and other precautions.

Below, a video from Omni’s SVP of Operations details all of the ways that Omni is working to keep guests healthy and safe. Below the video are some images from an August conference in Dallas at another Omni property. Although the VA1 set up will differ based on the spaces available, these images offer a glimpse of the various precautions put in place by Omni and show the level of detail and care that will be taken at VA1.
